Early Childhood Development
According to UNICEF, the first 1,000 days from pregnancy to age two offer a crucial window where children have tremendous potential and enormous vulnerability. Iniciativa Guatemala (IG) leverages this window by providing classes where young moms and dads engage in their child’s development through early stimulation at age-appropriate levels. IG goes one step further to offer a toddler program, Aprendiendo con Amor, based off a learn through play model created by one of IG’s partners – Planting Seeds International – so that parents continue to participate actively in their child’s education. The toddler program runs until the child turns age three, when the family can then enroll their kid in preschool. IG partners with Safe Passage’s preschool in Zone 3 and AMG Guatemala’s preschool in Zone 7 to ensure teen parents have continuous support throughout early childhood development.
